Followed a lot of the elements of what makes native American literature, with the tone and storytelling and place. It came full circle in the end. Some parts were implied rather than said. There was some dark and gorey parts but not all too graphic, not describing the gore in as much detail I suppose. Lots of little hints and callbacks throughout the story. There was a lot of basketball too which lost me for some parts, but I'm just not super sportsy. I was wondering about the title until pg172 when she said "the only good Indians a dead one", that felt like a big line in the book and connecting the title

listened to the audiobook version and holy shitttt!!!!!!!! shit hit the fan and then it just didnt stop! really loved this one, dark disturbing and funny. could have done without all the basketball at the end but that’s really my biggest complaint. i can’t believe this book is so decisive! it’s phenomenal
I'm really surprised by how devisive this book is. It's well written, easy to read, interesting concept and opens new doors to a different culture (for me anyway) it's a really interesting and great story. I really enjoyed it and really can't wait to read more by SGJ.

Would I have ever read this if it wasn’t for my book club? Probably not. But I appreciate how different it was even if the content was legitimately disturbing. Did I slightly struggle with following the form the spirit was in? Yes. Did I aways catch the POV changes? Not sure. Did an appreciate all of those things? Yes! I liked the changing narrative styles and even though I know nothing about basketball, I didn’t mind how important it was to the story. And I can check horror off my genre list for the year!

I’m not sure what I just read honestly. For me horror has to have a specific vibe to it for me to get into it and enjoy, and unfortunately this one just didn’t have the vibe. I don’t know if I was truly the audience for this either though.
