This wasn't one of my favourite Poirot books. It was good but not great. Poirot doesn't have his usual flair and panache. No mention of his little grey cells which made me a bit sad. The story was written well. The story itself is alright. Completely different from A Haunting in Venice. You wouldn't know the movie was based on this book. Only similarities are some character names. The book is written in third person from mostly Poirot's POV but a few others are included. It works just fine in the grand scheme of the book. If you like Poirot or Agatha Christie I would recommend it. Just don't go in with high hopes like I did. Movie better than the book I feel.

this one was darker and more upsetting for me to read, probably because of the subject matter and how the characters talked about it.

Some of the twists in the end do not hold a lot of water, but this is still a cozy mystery book for autumn, with a distinctive cast of characters, with Hercules Poirot continuing his status as one of literature’s greatest detectives.

A late Christie for sure. At times preachy which can be grating but it’s interesting that the topics that Christie focused on as modern issues are the same we do today. Changing times, loosening morals, it’s always been the same.

It was good! The explanation surrounding the plot line of the old woman’s will in the middle of the book was hard to follow. But hey the ending got me!
