Enjoyable read, but a predictable ending.

Sequel to A Time to Kill; Jake Brigance is back but on an estate trial rather than a murder. He must protect the wishes of a wealthy man who left a hand written will right before killing himself, leaving the majority of his estate to his housekeeper.

3.5 stars. It is my first legal thriller so I am rounding up.

As a thriller fan, I was excited to try out a new sub genre. However, I have decided that l like my thrillers under 400 pages, with short chapters, and with twists and turns. In a nut shell, I want my thrillers to be thrilling.

This is a well written, thought out story. It is just really long and really slow. It takes almost 500 pages to get to the actual trail. There a lot of things that happen in those first 500 pages but nothing super exciting. Once the trial starts, the fun begins and it goes pretty quickly from there. But out of the 21 hours of this audio, I would say only the last 4 or 5 hours kept my interest.

I haven’t called off future legal dramas (I just can’t call it a thriller) but it’s going to be a bit before I jump into another one. For now, I’ll stick with the movies!

Wow what a boring book. There were some interesting pieces but for the most part it was dull and repetitive.

I gave up on John Grisham a long time ago, but thought I would pick this one up because I loved A Time to Kill so much. Although the ending was predictable, I still loved how it unfolded.

Never in my life did I think I would be so invested in a book about a handwritten will and its legitimacy but here I am.

I'm so happy John Grisham decided to return to Ford County and all of its inhabitants for this book, and I can't wait to see where these characters and this county continues to go in the next Jake Brigance book.

I loved this book. A Time To Kill , is where it started for me; the movie is on my top 5 favorites list. When I read the book, I was immediately hooked. Sycamore Row allows us to catch up with the town, its colorful characters and of course Jake. I hate the reviews with spoilers and super detailed synopsis of a book...yeah you guessed it , we can all read a books storyline/details! You won't get that from me, if you read and loved A Time To Kill and loved the characters we met in that book, you will more than likely love Sycamore Row as well.

good book

This book took me longer to read than the usual novel but I enjoyed it so much more than some of the other Grisham novels I've read recently (I'm thinking of you, Rooster Bar). I don't think it's as good as A Time To Kill but I was just so relieved it wasn't a snooze fest that I was probably happier than I would have been had I not known the author at all.

I think that all the trial prep went on for way too long in my opinion; the backstory and the trial itself were the highlights and I guessed the mystery as to why this particular housekeeper, pretty much immediately so that wasn't exactly a twist. I just really enjoyed the descriptions of the food, the Deep South mindset in terms of gossip and church and the way the way things worked. The racism made me really angry and sad at the same time and I just feel so amazed that there are people out there who not only would not like somebody for their skin colour but would murder them with no consequences. The whole thing is just crazy and I'm not saying it's perfect in the UK but lynchings happened in the states in the 20th century, I just can't imagine what that would do to a family, to a community, it's heartbreaking and evil.

I will definitely read the next book in the series and I'm glad that my Grisham exploration will continue.

This was a great book to listen to in the car. I found it engaging, enjoyed the characters and the southern culture, and of course the twists and turns in the story plot. I still enjoy John Grisham!
