I read this because everyone talks about this book and quotes this book and even some of the phrases have become quite common in reference to the concepts of this book. So it turns out I’m quite familiar with a lot of the concepts. And having been on teams that followed this, I can say that it works. I’ve also been on teams that fell away from this and that also works… to no longer be great.
So it takes a strategic manager who is thinking through this type of thinking to be great. A level 5 if you will. But I’m not even sure if it’s following these exact principles or if just always looking to improve would do it. Because there are a lot of people who are happy to just sit back and only work to keep people relatively happy so they don’t quit.

Classic read. Although I've encountered a lot of its lessons before in different shapes and forms, it was nonetheless still fun to listen to. Jim Collins is an engaging narrator who is clearly passionate about these yearlong deep-dives he and his team have conducted in the field of business.

I have read this book at least once through 3 degree programs and always find it enjoyable. Collins did get research and made being efficent at work something to be proud of. A great organizatinal book, but my favorite aspect is the leadership component, and the concept of a level 5 leader. A book that can make the transition from the classroom to the home (or beach) easily!
