This story is just as engaging as the Notebook of Doom series. Maybe more.

Sam Graves is tapped to be the new hall monitor at Eerie Elementary and is trained by the odd (but loveable) school maintenance man, Mr. Nekobi. Sam's friend Antonio stumbles into a training session and is convinced that this is pure wackiness until stuff gets real the night of the school play when Antonio and Lucy (their friend) nearly get eaten by the school.

Seriously fun stuff--a little silly, but mostly a very tame horror novel for the younger set. Lots of fun and both AJ and I are looking forward to book 2!

OMG!!! This was sooo funny a relatable! I always thought my school is going to eat me alive, so this felt very much the same, although had a different approach ;) Now I have similar battles with work elevator. So far I am alive ;)

I picked this up for my rising 1st grader who is ready to transition to chapter books. We took turns reading chapters. He loved the story! We zoomed through the final chapters to see the end. Lots of giggles for the climactic conclusion. Definitely recommend! My son said we had to get the next one.

This is a great entry into "horror" for kids. My 5 year old daughter loves this book. My boys, (ages 7 and 5) not so much. They both ended up in our bed in the middle of the night after reading them this story. But they also run and hide during certain scenes in the movie Halloweentown, so you can use that to gauge how well they handle scary. :)

I did not expect to be impressed by this - it was just another attempt to find books that my 9 year old would feel compelled to read. But this is actually quite good! It is action from the first line, but still manages to impart a degree of purpose and comaraderie, and is legitimately creepy.

It loses a star for grammar though, I'm afraid: It is "all of a sudden," not "all of the sudden." That is a picky point, but it comes up more than once in this short tale, and for a still-learning-language audience I want to trust what is being delivered...

My students finished their first novel study of the year and they loved it! The story was a great introduction to mysterious stories that grabbed their attention. The use of figurative language and cause-effect relationships led to fantastic teachable moments. My students have begged me to purchase the rest of the series and are arguing amongst themselves as to which student gets first choice of books.

Oh yeah! Kids want scary books and this one will fit the bill. A boy is made hall monitor and his school comes alive. Oh dear! Lockers open and bang shut. The schoolyard becomes quicksand. And the school really gets crazy during a performance of Peter Pan. Scary. And fun.
