I expected her to save Skulduggery, and that it wouldn't be too hard, it was even easier and sooner than I had expected. Then the excitement and all was just as always there, yet this book was a little more predictable.
I am just happy that Skulduggery is sassy as always even in this book and after all that happened to him.

These continue to be fun and light (which it's strange to say about a book in which there's that much death and destruction) and I'll certainly carry on with the series, but there's still something that keeps me from engaging fully. I realise I'm supposed to like Valkyrie, and admire her moxie and sass, but I just don't, she's a snotty teenager with no respect for anyone and no one setting boundaries for her. Which I don't deny is an accurate and probably appealing characterization for many. I think some of the best writing these days is being done in young adult, but in this case I think the sad truth might just be that I'm too old for this.
