An enjoyable short tale. You gotta love seeing some background into Lee Scoresby's character.

A little dip into the past of Pullman’s north. Lovely.

Three stars for the lovely illustrations and extras, else there would’ve been a two stars.
Nothing here warrants writing a book about it. Do Lee, Hester and Iorek meet? Yes. Would that cover more a handful of pages? No.
If there is a plot, it missed me completely. Something about cargo and politics and tons of side characters? No idea. The story just made me uncomfortable.
SPOILERS: The only amusing facts that were gained here were that…
1. Lee and Iorek found each others’ names unpronounceable.
2. Lyra wrote a Master’s thesis about the development of trade in the Arctic, particularly cargo balloon carriage.
3. Hester is an Arctic hare, which was news to Lee, who hadn’t even known what an Arctic hare was! This proves that you might be destined for a fate far away from your country of origin — even destined for something you would never have been able to imagine.
