As Rich as a Rogue stared out on the slow side--it took a while for the reasons behind Mari's animosity toward Peter to be revealed, and until they were she came off as rather shrewish (not to mention unreasonably obsessed with being proper and sedate--ie boring as heck). Once we really get to know the two of them, though, and finally understand what their motivations have been for the past six years, I was tempted to slow down myself, just to be able to spend more time with them.

Except I was dying to get to their HEA...such a conundrum ;)

I loved that Peter is revealed to have been so focused on becoming a better person for Mari for all of those years, and that he is so determined to make her break out of her self-imposed prison throughout the book. The phrase that he has to teach Greenie to say to win their bet? Just awesome. I did begin to suspect that's what it might have been a few chapters early, and was so glad to have been proven right.

I also loved that Mari was able to put her years of observing society and ton behavior to such good use at the end to redeem Peter's reputation. And kudos to Ash, Lord Rimby for realizing the power that women actually held in society:
"It's the women who make the difference in this sort of thing. If they think you're a noble man fighting against evil, then their husbands will have no chance but to follow along."
(BTW--give that man his own HEA, please, Ms. Lee!)

Altogether a fun read with entertaining characters. I can't wait for more from this series!

Mari and Peter were both irritating but the tolerable kind.

A wonderfully written book - Mari and Peter are fire, and the whole thing kicks off with a wager over who can teach a bird a phrase first, so... :)
