Kind of unnecessary in terms of the main Chronicles of Narnia story/plot, but still fun

I remember this book being my fav from the series, in my childhood (probably, because it featured a horse, which was enough to catch my undivided attention back then). But, upon rereading this part, my opinion has slightly changed. I love the story, and the pace really picked up in the second half, but I feel like the story dragged on a bit.
I love that it's set during the Pevensies' reign, and this gives a little insight into that time, but it also confused me a bit, because it brought in a whole new world, that I don't necessarily associate with Narnia. It was still a good read, but it left me a tad dissappointed in this novel overall.

Why does every old white Christian children's book author write at least one of their fantasy books set in a Middle Eastern-inspired country just to be extremely xenophobic?

It feels like they are going out of their way to be shitty.

Additionally, this was one of the boring C.S. Lewis books, and I had to fight to get through this.
