This book was pretty good and probably my favorite of the series so far! While there are some old characters from the other books, the main characters are all new. This book is about an orphan boy who runs away with a talking horse, seeking freedom in Narnia, the country where the talking horse is from. Along the way, they meet up with a girl who is also running away with a talking horse, seeking freedom from being forced to marry an old man. I liked this book because the story was cute and even Aslan’s role felt more poignant and less cheesy. The stakes also felt very real for the characters. So yeah, this is the best one yet - 3 stars!

This has been my least favorite of the series so far. The story felt a little dry and it felt as if the bulk of it was various people traveling to and fro. I understand it’s an older book, but the racist undertones tainted the whole thing. It was a lot of characters with big egos and a constant onslaught of morality and divine power. Mix that in with fluffy and pretentious language that just felt gaudy and confusing, and it just made the whole thing unenjoyable. The pacing was off and it was rather anticlimactic with a rushed ending to tie off any loose strings. The potential was there, the story telling just wasn’t.
