This book is not good, and not just because the main character is a terrible and unlikeable person. Everyone in this book is... On top of everything it's ungodly slow.
Over half the book he's not even doing anything except lambasting how much he hates his new job
The only good thing about this book is that it ended.

honestly the problem with this book for me wasn’t even the narrator being a raging misogynistic/narcissistic sexual predator because i felt like that was kind of supposed to be the point (though it definitely wasn’t executed well). the main thing with it is that i just got so BORED. like it was interesting for the first couple chapters then you get to where he moves to minnesota and all he talks about is how it’s cold there for like 20 pages and like. i’m from minnesota myself and yes our winters are brutal but oh my god WE GET IT. this book is 150 pages and it feels like 500. i hate not finishing books so maybe i’ll come back to it but for now i just. i can’t do it. two stars because the cover and title are so good and i like the concept but it was just done so badly.

It was good for the first part but got worse as I went on.

Ok, hear me out... I did not think it was THAT bad.
I feel like many people didn't like it because the main character was an @sshole, and he was, he did a lot of bad things, but not in every book the MC is lovable.
I gave it 3 stars because I really like the writing style, and the story at some point was intriguing, but then it lost me, then I got interested again and then it lost me again, so now I'm just confused.

everyone keeps talking about how there’s no ‘hopeful’ ending for this book, or no tragic-hero-comes-and-saves-the-day outcome. what they fail to realise, however, is that book (which is somewhat an autobiography) was meant to show the ways & perspectives of a fucked-up mind. it was never supposed to be ‘pretty’.

sure, it’s misogyny piled on top of each other, and maybe even something born from a particularly bad case of paranoia (which the author himself keeps repeatedly mentioning he has), but my interpretation of this book says that there isn’t supposed to be a sad or a happy ending. just an ending. revenge & retribution. tit for tat. a story about a man who faced karmic justice for all his wrongdoings.

i gave it a 3.5 because at the end, the protagonist is so comedically unlikeable that you can’t stop reading the book. it’s one satirical, fucked-up ride, which is what i think makes it such an interesting read.
