Easy to read fantasy world building with interesting magic, light science and culture. The pacing was fast, with consistent characters that I enjoyed getting to know and accompanying on their journey. A pair of narrators made it easy to mentally switch between the view points of our two main characters. There was satisfying resolution in this book, but a clear setup for the next in the series.

TW- Mutilation, Poisons, Brutal Killings.
Being my favourite trope regardless if it comes in the shape of a movie, TV show or book; I am ashamed to say that this is my very first Enemies to Lovers read.
Veronica Roth' s CARVE THE MARK comes at us with a whole new galaxy which gives people of the planets power though the Current Steam that surrounds the galaxy. The plot is centered around one planet divided into two terrains; the harsh cold of Thuve and the ocean terrain of Shortet; the two countries who for years have been in a cold war.
The story starts with Akos- a Thuve citizen who gets taken by the enemy. Shortet is an unrecognised nation state governed by a dictator with a secret weapon- his sister Cyra who's current gift is the ability to summon pain to herself and others- finds herself forced by her brother to accept Akos- due to his current gift which gives Akos the ability to nullify others current gifts.
There is betrayal - for what Enemies to Lovers trope would be complete without it? - forming of unlikely alliances, one of which leads to a truly epic love story combined with an incredibly detailed adventure.

Bumped my rating down to one star because 4 months later I can’t even remember anything. Telling me I found nothing interesting in this book.

I love this author. This book was a bit confusing in the beginning. But I'm glad I stayed with it. Veronica never disappoints!
