I can picture myself using this book a simple a read aloud with my class. There is a group of 7 students in a class, plus a new girl, who Des t belong there, that are considered the "unteachable" students. They are in eighth grade, so they just need a "holding room" until high school. The students don't like either other and the teacher is informed the first day of school that he has been reassigned to room 117 and this group of students. He's not thrilled, but is motivated by his early retirement eligibility in June. Of course things change and growth along the way, but what happens to this group of misfits and their teacher?

No not a spoiler but an experience with the author. So I was in school and signed up to meet authors coming to Campbell Middle School in Pasadena Tx. G.K. came after so many others such as Roshani Chokshi. I bought his book before he could pass one’s out for free with his signature already inside (Something most didn’t do/ we had to pay an extra fee to get the signature in the book). Once he found out about me wasting money on such he told a teacher to take me to the stage with him. So to make the book personal for me he wrote GG which means Get Good. That was 5 or 6 years ago and sadly I lost the book in the storm. It was medium paced but it was all worth it sure the ending felt rushed but again you can’t blame them writing an article is just as difficult to me now. Lol 10/10 experience and 10/10 read highly recommend.
This was lots of fun the plenty of heart - the sort of book that's written for middle schoolers, but never really grows old and noone's too old for it - in other words, the best sort of book.
The idea and some of the plot points are not the most original, but the multiple first person narrations bring this story to life. Each voice is distinct and unique and, most importantly, feels real and true - true to character and true to life.
And it packs a punch for the adult readers as well - illuminating the uglier sides of our education system and the far reaching consequences of them in harsh unflinching light.
Brilliant.

Cute story about a class deemed unreachable trying to save their teacher from being fired. Shows great character development and themes of forgiveness, not judging a book by its cover and changing for the better from a rough past
