I think I would've liked it if I had read it in the 2000s. The story is solemnly focused on the male alpha personality of Joshua and the silly quirky tone of Lucy and lacks plot and character nuances. Even though the autor tried to portrait Joshua as a healthy masculinity character, he has a lot of toxic masculinity traits that are romanticized throughout the book.

Thus, I really didn't dig their enemies to lovers relationship—I think the reason they hated each other was ridiculous. Their whole relationship was based on the old concept that if a boy likes you, he treats you badly. Lucy spent a lot of the time being emotionally abused, and Joshua seemed to only care about her emotions once she started to show some interest in him.

This, plus the lack of diversity in characters made it really uncomfortable for me to read it atItimes. I would definitely not read it again but if you're okay with these kinds of things, then you may enjoy this. It has good writing and could've been a great story if it wasn't for the whole romanticized idea of violent love.

the language used in the novel is also kinda problematic
when explaining what the mc's 'love interests' desk looked like, it said
'it was a masculine version of mine, all blue'.
gendering colour and then the author says how his home is so feminine?
please this author is kinda shit.
and theres ableism, fatphobia.
and the characters are spoilt and such obnoxious characters.

Such a simple plot: workplace rivals, enemies to lovers trope. It has the perfect amount of everything even with a simple plot, it crossed off all the boxes. It’s not too cliche, a lot of slowburn, it has the right pacing, pretty writing, relatable characters, character development, everything’s exactly as it should be. What a whirlwind of emotions, it had me staring at the ceiling a couple of times because I was so in shock and I kept smiling to myself.

This book exists for no reason at all. It's clear from the start that the two main characters are in love with each other, but there's no yearning or angst. The enemies-to-lovers trope presented here isn't believable at all. And the stale writing doesn't help. The dialogues don't work, and most interactions these characters had were uncomfortable and confusing. I found the writing to be very repetitive and bland. Bottom line, I just couldn't get into the story. I felt like there was no reason to root for these characters. I usually love romance books, therefore I'm a little disappointed that I didn't enjoy reading this, especially after seeing how well-loved it is by the book community. I was expecting a light and fun read but, instead, I got an unconvincing romance and a boring plot. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm not giving this a one-star rating because I've read much worse, but I was tempted. This book wasn't good by any means.
