I think I shall continue with the series. It was just the right amount of mystery, action and character development to keep me interested in their future. It's also been a while since i read a thriller type of series.
It's hard to go back in time for an author you found in their newer releases. I can see why this was a top-tier thriller in its day and has its nostalgia.
I will read the rest of the series because Slaughter's writing is still top-tier, but I will recommend others before this one.

Probably more like 3.25-3.5 stars. There were a few really good parts but it took me longer to read than usual and I think it’s mainly just personal preference; I’m finding I don’t really like these older Murder style novels
I love Karin Slaughter--she's the undisputed queen of graphic thriller novels, and her shocking "Pretty Girls" may be my favorite book I've ever read. This one, unfortunately, didn't do it for me. It's a bit dated, with mentions of "cellular phones" and clunky medical terminology, but it's some people's favorite of her works! Although chock-full of Slaughter's signature gore and brutal violence against women, the "whodunit" of this one had me rolling my eyes. Not my fave, but I'll definitely read the rest of the Grant County series!

I enjoyed this and have the others in the series to listen to, I did work it out about half way in though, although I wasn't 100%.
Not as gruesome as I thought it was going to be, I was warned to have a strong stomach (perhaps years of Stephen King have steadied me lol) But enjoyable just the same, and my 1st finished book of 2014!
