scrittura: top
storia: avvincente (un po’ lenta all’inizio ma poi recupera)
interessante anche tutto il contesto immerso in una cultura che non conosco
consigliatissimo x stomaci forti (o immaginazione poco fervida)

There I will see you again and everything will start over from the beginning, nothing that happened or didn't happen between us matters, and there will be no sense of time, no earth that will not carry us, no wars no beliefs no people to push us apart...

One of those books where after you finish, you just lay there on the floor staring at the ceiling for an hour, trying to recover from the way it has so utterly hollowed you out. I'm reeling.
SpoilerOne of the main characters is, frankly, an absolutely despicable human being who ruins the lives of the people who love him and in doing so screws over himself as well. And YET
I could not bring myself to put this story down. There's just so many layers to these characters, so much humanity and so many facets of their personalities and their actions that are left up to the reader to interpret, that it makes for a fascinating albeit devastating and heartbreaking read. However, I don't think I could ever bring myself to revisit this ever again just because of how bleak and emotionally draining it was. There's something so raw and gorgeous about the writing though (I've highlighted like half the book), and the audiobook performance is simply phenomenal.

This was so bleak. I don't know why I keep putting myself through books like this.

Well that escalated quickly!
On the very first pages you are in for a rude awakening if you were expecting anything other than the intense balls-to-the-wall text that this book contains.

I “enjoyed” reading this book enough to give it 3 stars, but personally I don’t think I got a lot out of it other than anger and annoyance. It’s a book about a hateful, unredeemable asshole/psychopath and his whacky misadventures.
It certainly has its moments though and is well written. But I wouldn’t recommend it and would never read it again.

DID NOT FINISH: 54%

While I was interested in the queer aspect of this narrative as well as the history behind the events taking place, I found the way that the narrator talked about his wife and the people around him too upsetting and uncomfortable to continue reading. The event with the teenager the narrator meets online was really the thing that pushed me over the edge to stop reading. I was very disgusted by the way he was described in a way that did not feel like an intentional character choice but instead a reflection of the authors own views and biases. Maybe I’m fully wrong, but I just wasn’t interested in continuing after that.
