A little shallow as a reference book but Word Perfect doesn’t pretend to be anything more than what it is: a whimsical trip through words tied to various dates, events and people throughout the year. Reminded me how magical language is.

This was an interesting read. I read it gradually over about a month and learnt a lot of new words. Susie Dent is a very good writer as you'd expect and it's often funny as well as informative. Some of the links between the words and the dates were tenuous but it didn't affect my enjoyment.
