I have enjoyed picking this up throughout the year. The words associated with certain days were well-picked. I loved learning about lesser-known words, but also the origins of those you may use often without knowing where it came from. An interesting and delightful journey of words.

Beautifully written and researched, Susie Dent brings forgotten words to life and explains the forgotten origins of so many common words and phrases.

Excellent, excellent book. A perfect mix of all my interests, where linguistics,  anthropology and history trivia come together. Susie Dent is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also a great writer. I have a lot of tabs indicating my favourite word-histories, but my favourite has to be "corgi" - Welsh for "dwarf dog". It doesn't always have to be complicated.
