I like Susie Dent and I love etymology, I'm also a fan of 'Something Rhymes With Purple', Susie's podcast with Gyles Brandreth, who I find loathsome and irritating, but Susie more than makes up for it.
Despite this, I found 'Word Perfect' to be a bit of a slog. Lacking in 'The Etymologicon's' slight cohesiveness , this book was great in small doses. Occasional tidbits were brilliant but the majority felt underwhelming. Wonderful narrated by the author but still not as engaging as I'd hoped it would be.

This is the first book that I remember reading in its (I assume) intended method - a piece every day all year long. There have been a few occasions where I’ve missed a day or two - usually if I’ve been away - but it’s been a part of my morning wake up routine. Some great words, some good use of humour. A good companion to an odd year.

What a joy this was to read. I loved spending that quiet moment before bed reading something new. Every word and every anecdote was perfect and made my evening feel special. I’ll miss reading Word Perfect every night. I hope Susie Dent writes another collection of words or I’ll just have to pick this back up again.

Well, I've been trying to read this wonderful book one new word per assigned day at a time but Susie Dent is just too marvellous and I couldn't resist finishing it! Delightfully interesting.

A wonderful, easy read. You don’t just learn 1 word per day, each entry is chocked full of information. Super well-researched, funny, light-hearted. (Excuse the crassness but) a great toilet read lol and brilliant for people who just want to read a tiny bit and learn something everyday.
