I really enjoyed this one! The beginning wasn't as slow as Ross Poldark because I was already familiar with the cast of characters. I loved seeing Demelza's evolution in this book to becoming more confident in her role at Nampara and more independent. I was on the edge of my seat during parts of this book and devastated by the ending. I enjoyed the side characters and story lines, but the parts about the copper company were a little hard to follow for me.

I LOVE this series. I read it for the first time when I was 13 years old and I've read the entire series at least a half dozen times over these many years. I am listening to the audiobooks this time round and still loving it. The first four books in the series were published in the five years spanning 1945-1950 but they are timeless. I highly recommend this series. The audiobooks thus far have been outstanding.

Quite lovely. Nothing grand, but good nonetheless, though I think I am still being influenced by how much I enjoyed the TV series.

What is it about this series that is so compelling? The characters, with all of their flaws trying to exist within the same community. Even further, the in-depth look into a mining community filled with hardships as befitting the time interest me. This is great historical fiction, and while I did like Ross Poldark a little bit more there are plenty of good things about Demelza.

Book 2 covers the second half of season 1 of the 2015 TV adaptation. While There were great parts between Ross and Demelza that makes you melt in the first book, this book had them interacting less, which makes me hope the next book will be present. Reading the book I got a better sense of the Carnmore Copper Company and secondary characters that were difficult to follow in the show. On an emotional level, the book seemed a bit subdued and less dramatic as the show.

This Book Was: Sweet, Complex, Heartbreaking, Well-Written
Content Rating: Rated PG-13 for some violence and general adult themes.
Maturity Rating: Medium Maturity Some more dialect/accented dialogue in this one, but overall an enjoyable read. Vocabulary is moderately advanced for aristocracy but comprehended easily enough.
Would I recommend it? -- Yes
This is the second book in the series, and it is just as well done as the first, albeit with a little bit more of a toned-down nature. If the first book was a realistic Cinderella-type, this one was the reality of paradise never being what it seems. Very well done, and I am very excited to get to the next book.

I think having read this story I’d have taken more on board…. Just got a bit lost with the audiobook so didn’t love it.
