Gave me the feels though the relationship with the dad was a little too... overexplained? Awkwardly presented in a way that pushed me out of the story.

I loved the premise of a father-daughter cruise trip, but it fell flat for me. Something just seemed to be missing to really enlighten the story for me. I don’t know why! Still a good read, but maybe one I wouldn’t recommend to everyone though…

underwhelming & the entire book was truly at a college student writing level. some parts of the story/dialogue has me actually rolling my eyes while reading.

idk just didn’t vibe with the story, the romance— none of it was convincing.

After the heart and glue of the family, Helen, passes away suddenly, Greta's grief becomes a public spectacle on a big stage. She reluctantly agrees to accompany her father on an Alaskan cruise in her mother's place. On the trip, she attempts to reconcile with her father, with whom she has felt more and more distant.

This was the perfect light read for my 8 day cruise, easy to read but with plenty of substance. The complicated family dynamics were nuanced and relatable. Both Greta and Conrad have felt unsupported and unseen, while Helen has played the mediator for years. Now, all of the strings have unraveled and they must repair their relationship on their own. The setting was the perfect pairing for my Caribbean cruise. The swaying of the ship and the generous ocean breeze were felt both in and out of the book.

The writing and dialogue was superb and the characters were lovably flawed. There is plenty of humor but also difficult topics that are addressed.

Thanks to everyone who recommended this book for my nautical trip. It was a perfect accompaniment.
