I'm not sure that I was going to like the book at first because it's not something I'd normally read. But it turned out to be a great book! The characters are interesting, the themes are amazing, and the writing is unique. Though it's not a book that I would say is 'the-greatest-story-of-all-time', it's an enjoyable read. It's definitely a book to end a reading slump. With that being said, four stars to a very fun and enjoyable read with great themes.

Can you believe I finished this in one sitting at 12:00AM because I was in a desperate rush to finish this LOL

Initially I wasn't really warming up with the characters in the middle, even when Jack and Libby had their first date. But funny enough, I did eventually warmed up on this book. It was true, it was really poignant with Niven's writing, that even when the characters were happy and in their joyous moments you can still feel their inner sadness that was just temporarily set aside.

What warmed me up with this book is Libby's brave act at the hallway of her school. This was the moment of her character development that she stripped off (whoops) the insecurities of her past self and embraced herself with a positive light. It was rather endearing to read it, I quite liked it. This was a gentle yet empowering book to read when it comes to fighting off insecurities and promoting body positivity. Even I, a young adult, still needed that reassurance that Libby discovered for herself when it came to accepting who she was and not conforming to the standards people around her force her to.

Another thing I liked with Jack's story is how he dealt with his struggles on his condition. After reading the author's notes at the end, I am very impressed with the amount of research and assistance the author has sought after for Jack's character, and that should be commended. This was proper representation that I am very proud of being exposed to.

The ending was very sweet, which I had not expected myself to actually feel attached to. Especially knowing Niven's history of tragic endings courtesy of her other book All The Bright Places. I'm just thankful Jack got his shit together to finally get his shit together and break up with Caroline once and for all.

I don't have much to say about this book? I quite liked it, and would recommend it whether to avoid the tragic that is All The Bright Places, or if you need a break from the tragedy of said book itself.
