It was a very typical fantasy premise, but it was well told and the characters were interesting.  I would have liked a little more resolution between the characters at the end, but I understand they have a sequel to sell.

I loved the Indian world building elements and overall I liked the prose. What bothered me was the way the plot was unveiled, mainly through large chunks of backstory and conveniently written storylines. It was a little too on the nose much of the time. The dialogue also was hard for me to fully embrace. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters (particularly the love interests) and they seemed to make up their minds to act quite quickly without much development in their thought process. But the small little details about foods and clothes really spoke to me! I’m so happy to see an Indian-inspired fantasy story and wish the author much success!

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
This book is amazing. The ideas, concepts, world building is chef's kiss. Shayla as the villan is good, but King Lohar disappointed me quite a bit. I would've loved a scene where Gul atleast tried to attack and not get scared so easily. I really liked the use of hindi words, and as a native speaker of hindi, even I had to look for the meaning of the words in the glossary. The relationship between Gul and Cavas was underwhelming, and their chemistry could've been better. The book definitely got better towards the end, and the pacing could've been faster at the end. All in all, an interesting read which I'll definitely reccomend to my friends!

Along with a page-turning plot, HUNTED BY THE SKY has such a rich and incredible sense of place. I read this with my book club, and we were all drawn deep into this world and excited to read the sequel when it came out.
