Sometimes I feel that this series is overrated, but it somehow has a comforting homey feeling, as well as well-written emotional parts. The fighting between Kyo and Yuki gets very old by the third volume. There's a lot of characters, so it's somewhat difficult to keep them apart. The introduction of dark parts of the Sohma family come along at a nice measured pace. There's some strange romance and implied sexual relationships between Sohma family members. Overall, I like the relationships and like Honda-san a lot. There are some disturbing aspects that get brushed over. Shigure jokes several times about being into high school girls; why would he joke about being a pedophile? His editor threatens suicide, with a box cutter in her hand, and no one acts concerned. The whole incident is over in 3 pages. I don't appreciate a suicide threat being taken so lightly. And why are all of Yuki's classmates so obsessed with him looking feminine and getting excited about him dressing in girl's clothes? I don't know if this is a cultural difference or what, but this seems very unusual to me as an American. I am definitely going to continue, despite the concerning parts.
Moderate: Child abuse, Chronic illness, Confinement, Death of parent, Emotional abuse, Grief, Suicidal thoughts, and Suicide attempt
