A quieter novel that focuses on the women in a NY crime family. The 2 main characters and their relationship are wonderfully developed.

I think that audio book wasn’t the right format for me for this book. In audio, it made it difficult to keep track of the switches in points of view without clear chapter separations, and it felt slow. But I liked the evolving friendship between the two central women!

To be honest, the narrative of the way feminism is presented for the time period wasn't terribly plausible. It was also kind of redundant.

If I was rating this book on descriptive writing, I would give it 5 stars! It took forever for me to get through this book. It just didn’t do it for me. I was hoping for more mafia drama.

3.5 stars. Not bad, but the story was just a little flat. The historical aspect and how women trudging through lives were interesting.

This book ranks, for me, amongst The Book Thief and All The Light We Cannot See. The writing and musing wrapped me up and was beautiful; in combination with the story it made for a mixture of mystery, haunting, love, fear, and reality that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was slow to build, but I found myself wanting to spend more time with Antonia & Sophia.

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Less action in this one than I anticipated - more about the relationships on the other side of things you don’t see usually in mafia stories. Still worth reading, but more like My Brilliant Friend than The Godfather.
