Note: I normally read clean/wholesome/closed door. Please see the content note below regarding my rating of this book. I found the language and open-door content to be unnecessary and distracting but have reviewed the book based on its story merit, not content.

Whoa, George might just be the perfect hero. Loved the force-proximity of this sweet, determined heroine and reclusive, grunting hero. The winter/woods setting was fantastic and there were some definite laugh out loud moments. The romance is a slow burn and the suspense is good. It's sweet how protective the heroine is of her father and I loved the appearances by other characters from books 1 &2. I DNF at Chapter 30 to avoid the explicit content there.

Audiobook Narrator: Five Stars! Loved her and the way she portrayed the characters and their personalities.

Content: Rated R. Contains open door, consensual love scene and highly-detailed, explicit romantic content. Also contains extensive swearing, foul and crude language.

The first half was so so much better than the second. It was a slog to get to the end

I liked this one better than the last. George is an awesome main, and I'm a sucker for wilderness backpacking scenarios although they make me homesick. The main plot arc throughout is still intriguing.

George has always been alone, the tracker and survival expert for the Search and Rescue team. George reluctantly agrees to be Ellie's guide to her grandfather's cabin to find her father. Her father is mentally ill and has had no contact with him since she was a child. When he calls her scared she is determined to find him, only they are met with danger. It is up to George to keep her safe,

This story kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end, something was always happening. I'm not sure I have any nails left, I think I chewed them off. Watching George go from grunting and not saying anything to talking more was fun. Between the King brothers tracking Ellie and George to finding out who the bad guys are, definite suspense. Such a good book and can't wait to see what the town does when they finally learn who the bad guy is. The character that changed the most over this story was George he was willing to do whatever it took to keep Ellie safe and keep her in his life. Including go to a crowded city, when he doesn't like to be enclosed. He may be a gruff man but he treats Ellie with nothing but respect and makes her feel safe. In danger, while she tries to remain stoic, hes the one panicking and jumping into danger. I was sad to see George and Callie's story end I wanted more of their story.

The story begins with Ellie, who gets a weird phone call from her father, who says he might be in trouble because someone is after him.
Ellie, who is worried after the phone call, decides to fly from Chicago to meet her father in Colorado.

Arriving in Colorado, Ellie is more worried because she still can't find her father, so she decides to go find her father with the help of a quiet big mountain man, George Holloway.
Ellie and George begin their journey, but little they know, the people who are after her father might after them too.

I quite enjoyed this. I enjoyed the hiking part of the story, but I feel the story is a little bit draggy towards the end.
Also, I don't feel so much of the mystery, for me to know who is the bad guy.
I found the ending quite underwhelming. There is a cliffhanger but it left me unsatisfied.
The killer is just abruptly mentioned at the end like, umm okay??

But nevertheless I enjoyed it.

The pacing was a little wonky but it’s like all of my favorite tropes wrapped into one so this book is getting a 5 off vibes only.
