Not interesting and anyone who is automatically perfect at everything is boring

*Audio version*

Well written--long on character and plot. Hits all the right notes without feeling predictable. I understand why some are knighting Rothfuss the next Tolkien. Can't wait for the next installment.

This was an amazing fantasy. I haven't loved a book of this genre as much in years. I can't wait for the next one!

This main character and I just didn't click! But I'm a completionist, so I stuck it out, all 20+ hours of audio, only to come to the unsettling ending baiting you continue in the series. But I've had quite enough of Kvothe and his ramblings.

I have never read Harry Potter, only watched the movies, but I just kept getting the same vibes, only I liked those movies, this story not so much.

DNF'd early in and glad I never bought it. Tedious, pretentious, and over-written. I genuinely struggle to see why this guy is famous or got so much praise for this.

And knowing a lot of other things about him as a writer and person, I'm not inclined at all to read anything by him ever.

While I have my frustrations with GRRM, his writing is leagues above Rothfuss, and he has produced far more content than merely two novels and some novellas. I'm also still willing to buy Winds of Winter when it comes out because I love the world of ASOIAF.

Those books are dense and long, but I would easily recommend ASOIAF ten times over this one.

Do yourself a favor and skip over this author (Rothfuss) and his works. They are not worth the time and investment.

Ouff, this took me some time. Not the book’s fault, though. I loved the way the words were so full and light at the same time, if that makes sense? Lots of details and yet it was easy to glide through the chapters.. unlike a lot of fantasy that can be rather heavy.

Im not sure why I loved this book as much as I did
The story telling is very slow, but at the same time I was engaged and enjoyed reading it. It did fell very nostalgic- if it makes sense like my grandparents where telling a story.
Plot line- very cliche (very smart kid—>parents tragic death —>orphan->magic school—> best in magic school—>fights pipe line) but still manages to have some twists and leaves you invested in the story

The women in the book are just objects, and flat of character. There is no redeeming this and why it isn’t rated 5⭐️ for me. The women are complemented on their appearance first then disregarded, the argument could be made that it is from the perspective of a teenage boy, but it is over looking the fact that women hold no position of authority, power, respect or highregard throughout the book, they stay in the background low in numbers and low in station. Often viewed as having to be 'saved'- even the love interest.

Everything about the book in general should back it a slow boring or average read but somehow against the odds it isn’t. I couldn’t stop reading it once I started, and I enjoyed how everyone ties together without being overly obvious or in your face.

I just couldn't bring myself to finish it, couldn't get into. Considering how far behind I'm in my reading goal, I should focus on reading books I actually enjoy.
