We all know by now I’m not the biggest thriller fan but I have actually liked a few in the past year! This, unfortunately, was not it. The main thing was I found it so predictable—and I’m normally never right about these things whereas here I called all the twists. Plus there is a lot of SA in the book which I suppose added to it, but it started to get too detailed for me and could be very triggering for other readers.

I really enjoyed Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier.

It’s a thriller-mystery, but at the same time I feel like it focuses on the personal growth of the characters and the characters’ history; it doesn’t sacrifice the story by creating an over complicated mystery.

I really enjoyed the different characters’ viewpoints and how section with a character peeled back the layers of the mystery. I really felt for the characters and I enjoyed that there were also aspects of Toronto’s history woven in. While it has heavy material I think it’s tragic yet heartwarming seeing the main character’s journey.

I found it to be very predictable. I expected more from the book.

I quite enjoyed the process of reading this book. Chapters were a nice length, it was suspenseful, I cared about the outcome, I thought the characters were interesting, it was a nice length, and it was fairly unique despite having many familiar to the genre elements. It was not groundbreaking and I felt that pretty much all of the twists / secrets coming to light weren't especially shocking. But that's completely fine by me because I still cared about the secrets and fully bought in to the ride I was on. Because it was done well!
