Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hillier was my first read of her and will not be my last. I enjoyed this book and how it all came together. Throughout the story, I did not know what would happen, and it kept me guessing. As this author is local to me, I loved all of the local references and could picture them right away. I cannot wait to try out more of her. She will be on my TBR.

The trigger warning at the beginning of the novel was refreshing. Usually those storylines in a book make me close the book, except when there’s trigger warnings. More authors and publishers should do this. It’s just respectful!
Jennifer Hillier created a masterpiece. The storylines wove from the past and current storyline, and sometimes the same person in the past then in the current. I didn’t get lost because it was written so well.
Ruby, Paris, and Drew, were characters written and developed naturally.
I would say there wasn’t much laughing or light hearted. It’s a very heavy book of trauma and who dun it.

I’ve been looking forward to reading Jennifer Hillier, but this just wasn’t the right book to start with. I found that I was making myself read the book which isn’t a good sign.
