I'm excited for the spicy flavours this volume has burst fourth into the fry pan that is this series. Mystery plot - death - politics - spooky ooky - dooky wooky (as once said by the great Alyssa Edwards). I'm intrigued. I legitimately thought we'd get some sensei Aizen being shady content, but uh, ya know, he dead. RIP. Cause he was so wholesome with Hinamori and then...

Chad is such a baddy b his spiritual energy scares hoes into submission.
"Never turn your back on an enemy!!! DIEEEEEEE"
*Chad proceeds to turn around*
"AIYEEEEEE... I'm sorry!!! D-D-D ON'T KILL ME"

Shunsui sensei may have to steal the bae title (the blossom petal bit on p141/2 killed me - so wholesomely flamboyant - and his outfit oof love a good man kimono). Idk I need more content containing him. But then again Ranguku also has the potential, she's such a baddie. The Kenpachi panels were INSANE OMG he's so fckn cool LIKE PLS PIERCE ME WITH THAT 11 PRONGED MOHAWK. Dw it's an actual mohawk.

Overall: One of my favorite volumes to date, Tite Kubo does a phenomenal job weaving in multiple storylines for both the Ryoka and the Soul Reapers. He managed to pack in so much from Ichigo and Chad's friendship, the tension boiling over between Aizen and Gin and Hitsugaya, to the "all out war" declared by Yamamoto. The art was gorgeous but the symbolism and little details were immaculate.

Notes/Thigns that stood out to me:
- Hanataro is really incredible!
- Byakuya's callousness with Renji's defeat was something! It's believable since he doesn't appear to have empathy for Rukia, but Renji's imprisonment and attempted demotion is wild during an "all out war" on the Ryoka.
- Aizen's death seems so gruesome!
- Momo, Izuru, Hitsugaya, and Gin's confrontation on confrontation held me in suspense the whole time.
- Chad and Ichigo's promise and friendship over fighting for one another is incredible and so sweet. I love their friendship so much and appreciated the insight as to why Chad is so loyal to him.
- Being introduced to Shunsui Kyoraku - what a dream! I love his character! From his art, to his seemingly lassaiez-faire confrontational style that hides deep analysis and verbal baiting of his opponent, Chad. I love that two paragons of strength for their side were reluctant and respectful in combat, and thought Chad's resolve, though unmatched, was well done!
- The confrontation with Kenpachi. It was totally insane that Ichigo couldn't even cut Kenpachi at all when offered a first strike. What a behemoth!

Questions:
- What does a flower at the precipice symbolize?
- What was in Aizen's letter to Momo? And why didn't Hitsugaya read the letter before sending it via Rangiku?
- Why is the hollow mask back with Ichigo? Why did it protect him from Renji?

I loved this volume because we get to see so much from the Captains’ perspectives and the inner workings of the Soul Reapers within the Soul Society. Despite knowing how this arc plays out, I loved the major death in this volume and how it sets the rest of the story into motion. I liked seeing the captains and assistant captains interact and react to their circumstances and I loved seeing Ichigo encounter a captain level Soul Reaper. I liked learning more about captains and seeing how dangerous they can be, and I liked seeing more from Chad’s perspective and how it highlighted his friendship with Ichigo.
