WOW. Beautiful, simple, and powerful. I wish it was 100 pages longer.

Fantastic book; stunning ending. Another masterpiece from Jacqueline Woodson.

It was okay, but the characters (especially the young woman's) could ahve been developed more. Lacked emotion

Great YA fiction.

I found the 20th anniversary edition at work a few weeks ago, and I set it aside to read after I finished Educated. Unfortunately, 22 years later this book is still too relevant and timely!!

If I had to describe If you come softly in a word, I'd say "delicate". I am not a fan of romance or YA literature - especially because of how romance is generally portrayed - but here I am digging this heart aching novel that celebrates young love. Jacqueline Woodson has a unique way with words I can't resist.

On racism and love.

Such a sweet, sad story...one with tons of teachable moments! Wonder how I haven't come across this one before. Beautiful.

3.5 stars - Definitely more of a YA book and a very quick read. I liked the ending of this book a lot. It was really beautifully written. Some of the beginning and middle didn’t have the same vivid description. I liked the characters, but it was so fast I didn’t feel as much of a connection to them.
