Oh my aching, screaming, broken heart. This is lovely.

This is the shortest and yet probably the most painful book I've ever read. My heart is so broken. The writing is quiet and beautiful and incredibly to the point. Really good. Did I mention ridiculously painful?

All character development. No plot. Kinda cute. Abrupt ending. Definitely for teens only.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book and the way Woodson developed them. The romance was sweet and believable, and Woodson did a good job of depicting the kinds of resistance an interracial relationship could face. I was, however, disappointed in the ending, which felt really abrupt and unmotivated to me and seemed to change the book's focus too dramatically in the last few pages.

Honestly, I'm getting into a reading slump. I love Jacqueline Woodson though. (I promise I'll try to get out of the slump asap)

Beautiful language and beautiful love. Tried not to be sad about the "cliche" ending because it maybe wasn't cliche when written 20 years ago? Loved it; perf YA novel, but sad. In the words of John Green, "shatteringly contemporary"

This is such a touching, romantic, realistic story about love, the way it heals and the way it hurts. It is also very much about loss. Well done, Ms. Woodson. Well done.
