Mostly a sweet romance set in 1920s San Francisco. I appreciated the historical details worked in, and the characters were likeable and interesting. I did think there was a sort of large cast for how short the book was, so that many of the characters weren't super well developed. There also was just a hint of magic, but done strangely and never fully fleshed out. Is this a world where magic is a secret? But people are perfectly happy to talk about it openly.... but most people seem to be as incredulous when faced with it as someone in our world would be? It felt weirdly like it was just sprinkled in randomly and didn't make much sense or really add much to the characters, world, or plot. Other than that a quick and wholesome read.

3.5 stars. I was pretty disappointed in this one because I had high hopes for it. The setting was effective in setting the mood when it was used, but it wasn't used enough. The main relationship could have been nice, but it happens SO quickly. It's like every bad U-hauling joke you've ever heard. There is not really any magic at all. Obviously, there is magic, but it's barely used and it's not explained or set up within the story, so it's not interesting at all.

Interesting story that focuses on the LGBT community during the 20's. It also has some magic elements to it which were pretty interesting. I think the ending could have been explained a little better but was good for the most part. I also loved the friendships in this story. A small group of women who support and help each other whenever they can was nice to read about.

gorgeous writing, rich atmosphere, really interesting magic system ... the author clearly did her research . this was fun. the sci-fi stuff was cool, tho it was barely explored, and kind of felt like it was thrown in randomly? i think the length of this novel impeded that and also my connection to the characters. the plotting/pacing was strange too.. for about 90% of the novel nothing really happens but its fine bc it was enjoyable to read. a lot of jumping between povs in a way that was a bit jarring. i loved the ending though and the main relationship is rlly sweet (though a little too rushed for my taste)

Who doesn’t enjoy a story set in the 1940s all about lesbians in San Fransisco ???

A escrita, a história, o romance. Eu não consigo encontrar as palavras certas para expressar o quanto eu me apaixonei por "Passing Strange". Ele está definitivamente na minha lista de recomendações.

A really lovely little read with moments that hit hard, despite its lightness of touch - though perhaps just a little too slim for the story it wants to tell.
