Probably the fastes DNF I have ever had with a book. Only 20 pages in and I found it incredibly hard to read and sympathize with the “protagonist” if u can even call him that. The book basically forces you to read some of the most horrific and vile thoughts and actions  main character does while getting you to somehow feel bad for him. I’m sure he makes some “redeeming” ark in the end but I could care less lol.

I dont really know how to write a review for this book because it definitely wasn’t what I expected it to be.

It was interesting in the sense that I have never read anything like it before, and it really did feel like I was reading someones diary. But, in a way, it also felt like I was reading something that I wasn’t supposed to read, like I was invading someones privacy.

I’ll be honest, I had a hard time getting through this book because I couldn’t bring myself to like the person who’s story this is.

I still dont really like him that much, but at least I understood him a little better before placing my judgment of this book.

All in all, did I like this book, No. and here is a reminder that the target audience for this book are adults. This book is pretty explicit and is pretty much just the romanticization of a 30 year old alcoholic and his unhealthy relationships.

Entertaining, gross, farfetched read.  Won’t read the sequel. This book made me feel grimy.

honestly the problem with this book for me wasn’t even the narrator being a raging misogynistic/narcissistic sexual predator because i felt like that was kind of supposed to be the point (though it definitely wasn’t executed well). the main thing with it is that i just got so BORED. like it was interesting for the first couple chapters then you get to where he moves to minnesota and all he talks about is how it’s cold there for like 20 pages and like. i’m from minnesota myself and yes our winters are brutal but oh my god WE GET IT. this book is 150 pages and it feels like 500. i hate not finishing books so maybe i’ll come back to it but for now i just. i can’t do it. two stars because the cover and title are so good and i like the concept but it was just done so badly.
