I LOVED this book! There were plot twists I didnā€™t expect and yet it made me love it even more. It was dark but hopeful, tense but had light scenes. I loved the water aspect and how everything ended up threading together! Go read it! Check TW!

The spicy scenes are fairly spicy but the darkness of the romance motivates the hero to do something pretty unforgivable at the beginning and I'm not sure he's really forgivable by the end. The non-spice plot also takes an icky turn in the last quarter. I guess it was actually a little too dark for me.

Letā€™s start with saying: the book isnā€™t bad s as it isā€¦ it just wasnā€™t my cup of tea.
I do enjoy a good dark romance at times, though the aggression and right out hatred the characters handled each other with made things hard for me. Even more problematic were some of the spicy scenes where he quite literally is on the edge of killing her. Also at times sheā€™s saying no multiple times and things are happening not only without consent but with her having him told no.
I know itā€™s dark romance so some taboos will definitely be featured but -again- it just wasnā€™t my thing.

Yet, sometimes Enzo was incredibly thoughtful and caring. In my opinion the balance between him being an absolute asshole and him being the tender love interest, was just off. So while there absolutely were parts I enjoyed a lot (eg. unexpectedly the thriller parts) all in all it didnā€™t really do it for me.

Either way here are some quotes (maybe minor spoilers?):

ā€¢ ā€žThe sharp pinpricks release all kinds of endorphins into my system, and I decide here, and now, that Iā€™m addicted to tattoos.ā€œ same, girl

ā€¢ ā€žI've been scared my entire life, and I've been touched my entire life. It'll never hurt when you touch me, but it hurt that you were no longer safe.ā€œ ouch

ā€¢ā€žWhat happened to you does not define you. It only forged a new path that will take you to a different version of yourself. But no one can force you to walk that road; only you can determine who you will be once you get there. Itā€™s your choice who you becomeā€œ

ā€¢ā€žImagine what you could do if you only believed in yourself.ā€œ

ā€¢ā€žIā€™ve spent so much time running that I donā€™t remember why Iā€™m living.ā€œ

ā€¢ā€žThereā€™s a place in the ocean, so deep, where not a single point of light penetrates through it. And for so long, Iā€™ve been trapped there, unable to breathe. When I met you, you lifted me out of that darkness, and it was the first time I came up for air.ā€œ a rare moment of Enzo living to his full potential

ā€¢ā€žWe both lost pieces of ourselves that day. But as time passed while stuck in that lighthouse, we slowly merged our remaining scattered pieces until we made more sense together than we did apart.ā€œ

ā€¢ā€žYou made me want to live.ā€œ

Assault, a misunderstanding of marine biologists and a lot of spice that couldā€™ve been kinky if there was any consent involvedā€¦but instead was just cringey and super gross. I kept hoping for a twist wherein the MC kills this absolutely rapey ā€œlove interestā€ but nahā€¦ she ends up with him. Big nope energy.
