A very great read- I ended up getting through it in one day because I couldn’t put it down! The characters were relatable and it was so nice to have an adult focused modern fantasy that didn’t involve needless romance or spicy scenes. One of the best all around books I’ve read in a long time.

It starts slow, without a clear plot. It comes together really quickly. Enjoyable simple read targeted at parents who like fantasy worlds.

Cosy rainbow academia
—
Imagine Motherland and Buffy The Vampire Slayer happen at the same school, and you’ve got the picture. Vivian and Daniel have made the move to a chichi Connecticut town in order to enrol their now-werewolf daughter in a magical kindergarten. As the only human beings there, Vivian and Daniel each in their own ways navigate the pitfalls of a new school, magical beings and apocalyptic prophecies that seem to centre on their own daughter.
A gentle, cosy fantasy that I might call rainbow academia simply because there’s a school involved, and bears a distant relation to the Series That Must Not Be Named. Charming in both its depiction of new-ish parents now dealing with a whole new school hierarchy as well as a world where magic is everyday, it’s a neatly plotted novel that gives Vivian the tools to save the day despite having next to no magic.

A very relatable book for fantasy; at times frustrating, at times understanding for the MFC and her family. I really love friendship bonds and this one was lacking; it felt like it was about inner strength that the MFC had to pull from herself.
