What a fun, light, and funny read! If you know anything about the intensive parenting/college admissions do or die/high academic achievement dynamic and like to poke holes in it, this is for you.

A fun take on the magical school genre - from the perspective of the parents. A fantastical lens to view school-gate politics, marriage, family life and friendship, as well as subverting the chosen one and prophecy tropes of so much teen fantasy. I think I noticed hints of Buffy and Terry Pratchett among the influences.

4 stars.
This follows Vivian who is the non supernatural/magical mother of Aria; who is a 5 year old werewolf. They move to a new town to get Aria accepted into Grimoire Grammar School, a school for supes/magic children. Vivian tries to fit into the community via PTA and struggles her way through backbiting parents and supernatural snobbery.
I loved this, it’s a humorous cosy fantasy set with great pacing. I loved Vivian’s spiralling, you could really feel her internal thought process getting panicked and her anxiety coming through. The heartwarming conclusion, healthy therapy and support that the side characters give felt like a big, warm hug. If you like cosy fantasy and comedic blunders with a heartwarming story of an outsider trying to fit in and realising that one moniker doesn’t wholly define who you are, you’ll love this.
Thank you to Titan Books on NetGalley for the opportunity to read this.
