I loved the author’s previous book (Dreadful), but this one just did not land for me. The protagonist is a ball of anxiety, and instead of being proactive about it, she mostly sits around waiting for other characters to act. The setting is ill-defined and I had trouble keeping track of a bunch of very similar side characters. The slow rollout of world-building works against a book like this when there are so many others that do it much better. I wish the author well but honestly, I don’t know if I’d read another from her given how many fundamental issues this novel had in the first hundred pages… a real shame since Dreadful was so good!

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be. Light, cozy, and fun. There’s no major surprises in it and yet I still wanted to see how the characters would respond to the situations.
I very much enjoyed spending time in this world that Caitlin Rozakis created.
I felt like some of the subplots wrapped up too quickly. As an example, the resolution with Daniel, while I’m glad it worked out, just seemed too easy given the strain their marriage was under.
All in all, it was a sweet, gentle read that was exactly what I’ve wanted to read take my mind off heavier things.

Would have been 4 but it took a while to start. I wish the mystery element was introduced sooner as I almost DNF
