biting, absurdist humor and some surprisingly profound insights into the human condition in modern-day hypercapitalist, hyperconsumerist society.

On the surface its just a weird novel/collection of stories. But I love that there's more to think about the deeper you look. Reflections on society (especially Korean office/work culture), the state of the world, mental health, personal perspective, etc. I love a book that makes you think.

Sometimes I see art and I feel stupid and annoyed because I don’t “get it”. This felt like one of those times. Would not recommend.

3.5 for good writing and interesting yet odd subject matter. The ending left a lot to be desired though.

What on earth did I just read and how was it so entertaining and weird at the same time?

This started off so strong for me, but towards the middle, reading it was like pulling my own teeth with the Operation™️ tweezers. The end picked back up tho, so four stars. I laughed out loud a LOT.

Everything gets recorded. Whether it is by words, or by fossils, by memories or by stories. All things in existence leave records. And as such, the files here are recorded because they exist, and because they have been recorded, they are preserved - whether we want it or not, whether we believe it or not.

4/5stars

This was such a fun and wholesome but also thought-provoking book. Although I do not like short story collections, I found that the setup of this novel made the episodic and short story-esque chapters to be okay. This novel really reminds me of the k-drama mystic pop-up bar not because of the actual story but the setup is similar. I enjoy getting to know new characters and seeing their problems and their stories but also having an overarching story and characters that develop. I really liked this one and definitely recommend it.
