4,5⭐️

I had seen the movie before reading this and honestly it was nice knowing a bit of how the plot went but that was almost 2 years ago so I had forgotten a lot.

It was just so fascinating how you could in search for better words root for the villain?? Like surely this was his villain origin story….right?

This book made me laugh, made me anxious, it was hard to read at times and I think that is the whole point of the hunger game books that they make you feel uneasy. But it also brought tears to my eyes and also made my heart melt and root for characters before making me despise them.

So in conclusion a great book💚

This is the only Hunger Games book I did not love profusely BUT it's only because of how well Collins captures the mentality of Snow. She never lets you forget he is sociopathic. I read it in 2 days out of a deadline, but wish I'd spread it out more since it's difficult to be in that mindset in such a concentrated way. You don't walk away liking Snow, just understanding why he is the way he is and how the Hunger Games became more brutal due to his existence.

I have finally finished this book! I still adore the original trilogy and think these books (and movies too) are such a pillar of personally my reading journey but also a must in a literary world. Now, if this one is a must, it depends but I am glad I read it, but I am even more glad I saw the movie first. It helped me go through a lot of it, waiting for that ending. It dragged yes, being in Snow's head was painful yes, seeing the hunger games in the very beginning knowing what kind of a spectacle they turn into was hard to read and stomach, but overall, it is supposed to feel this way. I loved the psychology behind Snow's villainy, how he wasn't born evil and had capacity for feelings like friendship and, seemingly, love but the guy was ultimately selfish and made choices he made because of his own ambition. This is the type of evil that is the most realistic and Suzanne Collins has always given us realistic, right?
