I don’t know what I expected because we clearly know from Hunger Games that Snow is the bad guy, but the way Suzanne wrote him in this book, you kinda like him. Then he truly becomes the character we know and loathe. I was so disappointed how he treated Sejanus especially when he was kind and really a true friend to snow. Due to this betrayal I just didn’t like this book much. Betrayals are such a turn off for me.

The overall story and the games was interesting seeing how Snows expresses shaped how he behaved and overall opinions of other. How though the entire thing he looks down of people from the districts despite being friends with one and falling for another. How murder is framed as people are desperate to survive and how they are demonized for how they react to there lives being threatened. The cruel reality of the hunger games and how they use it to push there own beliefs.

Snow really sees the worse in everyone and thinks he is the best. Thinks he is above manipulation while being manipulated by someone else then he thinks. How curl he is. The justification of his actions and thoughts. The complete disregard for other once they no longer benefit him.

Would be 3 stars if I had to read it over a longer period of time. It really sets up The Hunger Games and I enjoyed it.

A very good story about the origins of President Snow in The Hunger Games universe. The way it is written almost seems to give you two stories in one, which I love.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it literally felt like Collins was about to miss her deadline and the last 2 chapters seemed incredibly rushed which resulted in what I consider a somewhat lazy ended with a lot of open ends.
