Another sweet installment in the series. I quite enjoyed this one, but something in the narrative didn't work *quite* as well for me. The relationship between Samuel and Eddie felt like it moved a little too quickly (at least on Eddie's side, I could understand how quickly Samuel fell) and I found myself frustrated by how Eddie didn't really seem to do any research or look into any actual ways to make the refuge profitable despite dumping his life savings into it beyond a couple of open houses that would have never sustained it--it was so unbelievable to me that I found it incredibly distracting and found the happy resolution equally unbelievable as he, frankly, should clearly not be running an animal refuge essentially by himself given his utter lack of qualification other than "liking animals". I did enjoy it overall, and it was a quick, cute, gentle read, and Samuel absolutely stole my heart!
[3.25] Not bad but I couldn’t help but compare it to the first book, which I loved!
While this book started out with promise it didn't quite deliver.
I couldn't even stay excited about the farm which sounded like a simple, sweet place, it just dragged on with nothing exciting happening.
The romance was so dull, even the first kiss was underwhelming, I didn't feel the connection between Samuel and Eddie. After reading "five dares" I expected some heat here but even the sex little as it was didn't complement the relationship.
at times it felt like the writing was too juvenile, a little unrefined considering the previous quality of books by the author which is actually good on average.
The three stars are for the idea behind the story really and the beginning.

How Could I Forget?
How could I forget how good Eli Easton writes? This two-book series can be read as stand-alone but you definitely want to read them both.
No one writes relationships better and she seemingly adores taking you through all the feels. You fall in love with her characters and animals.
Editing is superb as always in her books. I highly recommend this series.
Merged review:

Eddie & Samuel... and Benny!
So cute and heartwarming! I loved the feel good vibes of this book and as usual with this author this is not too simple. This is subtly and justly written. A pleasure!

I like the MCs but I didn't really feel them as a couple. The last 40(ish)% of the book was more about the farm than anything else and that's fine, but I would have loved to see more of how they were in their relationship. Also, there was such an emphasis on how difficult the financial situation is , but not enough was spent on the resolution.

cute story, but i felt like we didn't really get to see how their relationship developed from coworkers to 'i love you'. it was a bit fast.
also, i didn't really like eddie..

Much better pacing than the first book (but more attached to couple from the first book)
3.5 stars
Arghhhh... A Second Harvest is one of my fave-favorits. I loved that book and I really wanted to love this one. And I tried. Oh Lord did I try. I made apologetic notes to my self while reading... Like:
Sometimes I just got exasperated and wrote things like:
Okay I loved Samuel and most of the time I almost liked Eddie. And the story could still be good even though I didn't like one of the protagonists, but it was kind of boring. There wasn't a lot of romance. There were half a book of nothing, some heavy petting and then they were in love. I would have loved some more. It was also kind of low on actually action, but I could forgive that since it's not really that kind of book. But when there isn't a lot of anything else, you just miss Something.
But, but, but it wasn't a bad book and it's not like I regret the hours spent, so 3.5 stars. I might shed some of my disappointment later and change my review. But not now.

I have to remember that just because Eddie's "plan" about a sanctuary is a non-plan and just because he is way too naïve (some might call it stupid), doesn't make the story bad. Note that non-plan wouldn't have worked even if his ex hadn't pulled out... Unless he was a naïve, bottomless money pit.

And grow your own fucking carrots! If I would, I could grow them on my windowsill in my flat.
