I loved the first book in the series, but this one was a lot less interesting to me. I just didn't care for the plot that much and kept zoning out. I'm also not a fan of the narrator so that didn't help.
One of the things I loved in the first book was Reagan's relationship with her father, which was almost absent from this volume. Hopefully if there's a next one, he will be more present.

The second installment in the Regan Merritt wraps up the mystery surrounding Regan's son's murder. Her former co-worker and friend, Tommy, continued his off-books investigation following her move to Flagstaff. Regan travels to D.C. after his murder to see if she can find out who killed Tommy and why. She knows his death has to be linked to what he uncovered about her son's tragic murder but will she find out the truth before it is too late? Fingers crossed this is not Regan's final appearance!
I will read everything Allison Brennan publishes and I will love each book.
While this was book two in the series, you can definitely read it as a stand alone. Personally, I’m not sure Regan Merritt is my favorite of the characters Brennan has created, but I do find her intriguing and I’m eager to learn more about her as the series continues to develop.
While the last book focused on Merritt helping someone else despite her own trauma, this book primarily focuses on her past while she tries to figure out why someone killed her best friend while he was investigating Merritt’s son’s murder. And as the secrets are divulged, more people’s lives seem to be at risk.
If you’re looking for a good mystery author, Allison Brennan is the one you should pick up. With numerous series to pick from, she has a bit of everything for everyone and you won’t be sorry.

I love the Quinn and Costa series, and decided to give the Regan Merritt a chance. While I appreciate her story, this book wasn’t as interesting as the first. While I enjoyed the thrill and have come to enjoy the multiple POVs the author untraditionally uses, I expected more from the story. It was very confusing how everything tied together. I can see where the author was going, but it was very difficult to get my mind to focus on those details and connect them.
Regan is such a strong willed woman and I love how whole circle this story was for her journey. She was able to get closure on her sons death and get justice for Tommy. I wish we could’ve experienced more of their friendship but alas maybe Brennan didn’t want us to fall in love to inevitably get our hearts ripped out.
Grant annoyed me this whole book, in the best way possible. Brennan is an expert in writing unlikeable characters and I mean that in the best way.
I enjoyed Charlie’s friendship and presence in the story.
A consistent critique I’ve noticed with Brennan is while the untraditional use of 5+ POVs helps to create the picture, in a way I wish she would show us more of what is happening in the scene and characters by focusing on details rather than just telling readers. There were a lot of moments when I was thinking if it was necessary to include details and found it redundant. But overall, it captured my attention and was a great quick read
