Abby Jimenez never ceases to amaze me with her poignant romantic comedies. She is truly a master at creating a realistic and vivid world with relatable characters. The characters in this book truly tug at your heartstrings.

The main reason that I couldn’t give this five stars is that I feel like Jimenez tried too hard to be relatable in this one. There’s something so cringy about hearing/reading about TikTok trends, SJM book characters (specifically how the MMC looks like Rhysand), and other internet lingo. It really got to be too much. Felt like a fanfic at a certain point, which there is nothing wrong with, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed this one! The characters had great chemistry, and Abby Jimenez always knows how to bring the emotions. The romance felt genuine, and the story touched on some heavier topics without being too heavy overall.
That said, a few parts felt a little too dramatic or wrapped up a bit too neatly for me. Still, I was invested the whole time and found myself smiling (and tearing up) more than once.
Not quite a top favorite, but definitely a solid, emotional read with a lot of heart. If you love slow-burn romance and a bit of depth, you’ll probably enjoy this one too.

emotional sad

This book was not a happy and light read.
Samantha's mom has demantia, her grandmother dies and she cannot be with her boyfriend Xavier.
. Too many sad things, not enough focus on fun, lighearted things. This did not make it a fun escape of reality but a very heavy read. I still do love the writingstyle, but this was just a no for me...

TikTok Brain Rot and Unnecessary Trauma: The Novel. I am so disappointed as this was a highly anticipated read for me and I waited for the library hold for weeks.

I feel like I say this with every Abby Jimenez book—but this just might be my new favorite!

Samantha & Xavier’s story is breathtaking. With its rawness and authenticity, it reads like a true story unfolding right in front of you. Abby has such a gift for writing characters you instantly care about and connect with.

The emotions in this book are deep. Samantha’s struggles are heartbreakingly real, and the way Abby weaves love and hope into her journey is nothing short of beautiful. I wasn’t ready for this story to end, and honestly? I’d be first in line for a sequel. I need more Samantha and Xavier in my life!

Weakest of the new era Abby J. books primarily because it was just so terribly repetitive that it made me want to DNF. I know previous books by her also get repetitive, but this was beyond those I felt. Overall liked the characters and honestly wish we got more Xavier. Low to mid spice.

This was so sweet and it painted a more realistic picture of dementia when it came to her family dynamic. I love that there was no miscommunication trope or that they never broke up because of her mom’s health condition. MMC was amazing and patient from start to finish and FMC was emotionally strong and grew into a huge pillar for her family. There was a plot twist closer to the end that I was not expecting to make me as emotional as it did. I don’t want to give it away though. I loved it. The only real critique that I have is that the word “contemplative” was really overused, the pacing was a tad slow in the middle, and I wish that Geneva had a little more character development, but that’s really it. Was a cute read.
