“You think that it’s the big memories you should be chasing—and it is in a way. Birthdays and vacations and special occasions. But the small memories are the fabric of your life, the ones so inconsequential that you don’t even remember them. You just remember how you felt when you were making them.”

This book had a different feel to it compared to Abby’s previous work. I admit that I didn’t fully grasp the romance until about 60% of the way in but Abby has a way of crafting her stories with emotional depth & invisible strings that get me emotional every single time! The way Xavier was down bad for Samantha and seamlessly blended into her family without hesitation was beautiful. He truly fell first, and harder. No other man has fallen harder I swear.

I know this book is quite divisive among readers which I can understand. Sadly I was able to relate to Samantha & her siblings when it came to their dad. Do I think his actions were okay? Of course not, but I was able to see a situation from my past from a different perspective. I can appreciate Abby for that.

Oh how I adore Dr. Brekken! He brought so much hope and wisdom to the story. What a sweet soul! The scene that he and Xavier shared together before the grand gesture is one that I will remember for a good long time.

“Look at you. Look at everything you did.” 😭

I like that this book showcased the complexities of long distance relationships. I don’t see this often if at all in books, so it was refreshing to see something new. Xavier and Samantha stayed true and devoted to one another even with all of life’s challenges.

“Because if you were my wife you would be my world. Everything starts with you and ends with you. Anything else is just the stuff that happens in the middle.”

Even through all the heaviness of this story, I love that it left off on a hopeful note. A family fractured by loss and disease came together again. What was once grey shone in full color, if only for a moment.

not my favorite of this set of books, and it drove me a little crazy that the connection to the other three storylines wasn’t as pronounced. but it was beautiful and i loved the characters

An enjoyable and easy to read book. This one felt very heartfelt and it dealt with some very heavy topics but I feel like it was done well.

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the instalove at the start, I did really like Samantha and Xavier’s relationship and loved that they found their person in each other.

This book was the first book showing a realistic level of how often long-distance couples see one another. It simultaneously stressed me out and reminded me of my experience with it and I totally understood the feeling. I loved that both characters were so loving of animals and both rescued at least one.  The depiction of dementia and how families need to work together to manage it was really fascinating and stressful.

Is it weird that my favorite character, other than Xavier and Samantha, was Tristan?

There might be no such a thing as a perfect guy, but Xavier Rush comes disastrously close. A gorgeous veterinarian giving Greek god vibes—all while cuddling a tiny kitten? Immediately yes. That is until Xavier opens his mouth and proves that even sculpted gods can say the absolute wrong thing. Like, really wrong. Of course, there’s nothing Samantha loves more than proving an asshole wrong…

. . . unless, of course, he can admit he made a mistake. But after one incredible and seemingly endless date—possibly the best in living history—Samantha is forced to admit the truth, that her family is in crisis and any kind of relationship would be impossible. Samantha begs Xavier to forget her. To remember their night together as a perfect moment, as crushing as that may be.

Only no amount of distance or time is nearly enough to forget that something between them. And the only thing better than one single perfect memory is to make a life—and even a love—worth remembering.

Say You'll Remember Me needs no introduction - this book has been absolutely everywhere and on so many most anticipated lists, mine included. Knowing it would include a long-distance relationship and a dementia storyline, both deeply personal to me, had me dropping everything to pick it up upon release.

Told in dual POVs, the undeniable connection between Samantha and Xavier leapt off the page from the very start. Their 'date' was a whirlwind, yet wholesome and believable. I liked both of the main characters, yet it's Xavier who really steals the show - Abby has delivered another cinnamon roll MMC. The side characters each have their place and help move the plot along. And I absolutely loved that the relationship doesn't take the front seat, which is so often the case in romance novels. Rather their relationship builds a solid foundation where they must openly communicate with one another - a reality of long distance love.

One of the biggest critiques from readers has been its sad and depressing tone, yet to me, it mirrors reality so perfectly. I loved all of those hard emotions. It shows how life isn't always easy and clear cut and it felt like it could the type of scenario that could happen in real life. The exploration of grief and caregiving was realistic, showcasing the tolls each can take on individuals and relationships. It also demonstrates how people handle situations differently and need different things. Additionally, the Xavier's toxic familial relationship was absolutely heartbreaking, and I thought that part of the plot was well executed as well - the continually pull for approval and acceptance despite years of neglect and abuse.

If I am being really nitpicky I really didn't love the TikTok/social media aspect of the plot, which felt like filler, as though Abby is catering to a specific crowd of people. There were a handful of scenes intended to be funny, yet were ridiculous and felt like her ticking boxes for the TikTok crowd. I understand the marketing power of the platform for authors, it just didn't feel like authentic Abby.

Say You'll Remember Me was the perfect companion and comfort read during my recent bout with pneumonia. I laughed. I cried. I swooned. I ached. Abby has a way of creating the most dynamic characters and readable stories with real life emotions - it's the reason I connect with her books so much. This one is up there among my favourites of hers and I will continue to read everything she writes!
