Firstly, I feel compelled to add my two-cents about some of the criticisms leveled at this book...
1) I'll concede that the ACOTAR references are a bit cringe. But as shorthand for "the hottest, broody man you've ever met" and only appearing a handful of times in the opening 10%, not a big enough deal for me to complain about it.
2) People being put off by the FMC's internet lingo. She's a social media marketer. It suits her character.

Now, onto what I really want to say...
I loved this. Abby Jimenez writes romance that's bigger than the two main characters. Not only is this a beautiful love story about Xavier and Samantha, but it's also about the people they love and the nature of memories and being a witness to the lives of those around you. As always, her green flag MMCs will get me every time and I found Samantha and her struggles so relatable. I thought the way in which caring for a person with Dementia was written was done so well.

I listened to the audiobook and the casting was perfect.

CW: dementia, infidelity, child abuse, animal cruelty, animal death, death

A rom com that comes with content warnings, that references internet memes and booktok books? Heck yeah!

Bittersweet but great book, love the animals, as always.

This book will rip your heart out,  stomp on in,  put it back in and you realize you would do it all again.

How do you deal with the loss,  the slow loss of someone who has forgotten you? Abby has done an amazing job of showing the heartache and heartbreaking pieces that go into dealing with someone with dementia.  And the equally difficult minefield of dealing with a long distance relationship.

TL;DR: It's probably best for audiences looking for romance with a heavier touch of angat/drama, or enjoyed watching tear-jerker romance movies like "A Walk to Remember."

I think someone has said the book reads more like contemporary fiction than a typical romance book, and I agree.

The main characters somehow fell in love instantly (despite the fact they never met each other for the 3 years they lived in the same city), and then the MMC constantly skirting the line of 'falling on the sword' in the relationship. The FMM I felt at times somewhat immature (though it could the age gap between myself and her), so I cannot really relate to her.

There is also a substantial amount of illness / medical trauma that I had not expected (I had read the warning, but it appears I underestimated).

There are also instances of animals in peril / implied animal cruelty (even most of the current instances they ended well).

I know this book was marketed as rom-com, but I feel it is more like a romantic drama.

All in all, it was an interesting read, but I felt I would have felt differently had I knew / understand better of amount of angst this book had in store.
