I love Abby Jimenez but this was a miss for me. It felt like the plot started 6 chapters in. I was confused, like I was missing pages.

I understand the nature of the relationship and meat of the story was meant for time to pass but it was so quick it was unenjoyable.

*ARC REVIEW - Thank you so much to Abby Jimenez’s Facebook Group & NetGalley for the opportunity to ARC read this book!!*

Last year when I met Abby Jimenez at a signing and told her that Just for the Summer was my favorite book yet, she gave me a sly smile and said “just wait until my next book - it’s my favorite book I’ve ever written”. Now that I have read Say You’ll Remember Me, I completely understand why.

Say You’ll Remember Me is Abby Jimenez’s most emotional and heart-wrenching book yet. While Jimenez is known for tackling sensitive subjects in her prior books, Say You’ll Remember Me takes it up a notch by tackling the realities and pain that comes with dementia and past childhood trauma. As is typical for Jimenez, these topics are written about with an authenticity that you don’t find often from other authors.

Xavier & Samantha are characters that feel so real - they are flawed, but they fall for each other and love each other wholly.  Their struggles with dating and falling in love with someone long-distance is one that I think so many readers will be able to see their own relationships in, my own included.

As always, please read the trigger warnings and protect your mental health!

Abby does it again… I audibly gasped, I kicked my feet in excitement, and felt my heart wrench throughout the book. Such a great story!

Samantha’s love of her family throws a huge roadblock in her relationship with Xavier. Her experience with her mom is raw and the family dynamic plays out like a real family. Abby handles the sensitive issues with such care, I felt like I was truly in the mind of each of the family members and how they felt in their roles in caring for Lisa.

They have one of the most unique meet-cutes I’ve ever read - I never imagined kittens and buttholes and veterinarians would make me laugh so much. I love how much they both grew over the course of their relationship and how they named and worked through the many challenges, mental and physical, of a long distance relationship.

Such a great story!!! This one will be a reread for sure.

Does anyone write better dialogue than Abby Jimenez? Or better boyfriends? I think not!

As soon as I was turning pages, I was smiling and so happy to be in the company of Abby’s writing.

Alternating chapters between Xavier and Samantha are perfectly woven. Samantha has the best sense of humor and Xavier is truly the perfect boyfriend (maybe a little too perfect but still). Xavier is a veterinarian who meets Samantha when she comes in with a rescue cat, who definitely needs rescue. He thinks the cat is beyond help, but Samantha, a marketing copywriter, proves otherwise. But then she is called home to help care for her mother, who has early onset dementia (at 55), and their struggle becomes real.

This book is so much about grief, taking care of aging parents, and all the difficult things in life. I enjoyed it, but I wish it would have had a little more levity in a few parts. I appreciate how much Abby tries new things and really wants to examine all facets of mental health and life experiences.

Samantha is a social media maven, who ends up with a kitten and brings it to a veterinarian. Xavier is the vet, who’s hot and broody. The two make an impression on one another and end up having an epic, unforgettable date. But life, distance and things happening in Sam’s family make it difficult for them to be together like they’d hoped.

I’ve gotta say, I really loved the first half of this book. Samantha and Xavier’s love story is very cute, and they were easy to cheer for. I found the second half to a bit repetitive, with the two of them trying to make their relationship work despite the challenging circumstances. Xavier was a total babe and I loved all the animals coming through his clinic. Samantha’s family was delightful, but I would have liked to get to know them more.  The playlists were very sweet.

Please be sure to read the content warnings, as this book deals with some tough themes including dementia, abuse and death.

I’ve wanted to read one of Abby Jimenez’s books for awhile and have a bunch on my TBR. I was grateful to receive this ARC from Forever and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Hachette AU for the e-arc of Say You'll Remember Me. This book was a sensational read. I laughed, I cried, I could not put it down. I'll never hear "Come on Eileen" the same way again.

It features dual POV of Xavier - a mysterious, brooding vet (with a description akin to Rhysand) and Sam - a witty, bubbly social media expert., as they forge an unexpected connection and romance. The main characters romance is sweet and funny, while also being heart-aching challenging. It explores the dynamics of long distance relationships in a painstaking accurate way.

Another key component of the story is the role of both Xavier and Sam's complicated family dynamics, in particular with Sam moving back to California to undertake a larger role in caring for a family member with dementia.

Read for:

Jimenez always mixes real world problems with her once in a lifetime romance. This time it was almost too much reality. And yet….no one does it better or with more sincerity. Just a beautiful story. Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for an advance copy.
