The Road is a fantastic book. Although it starts off slow, it quickly picks up and has the reader on the edge of their seat. Cormac performs a few very original tricks to captivate the reader. First, the author does not give names to the characters which creates a sense of foreboding and subconsciously places you in the role of Man. Cormac also chooses not to include chapters making stopping the read increasingly hard. This lead to continuous reading which made me even more connected to the plot and building the anxiety to a crescendo.

But more than the characters and the immersive feeling of the story the Road shows the good and evil of our humanity. Overall I thought this was a wonderful book and I look forward to reading more from Cormac McCarthy in the future

It’s not very often you find a book that truly provides such a thick atmosphere. You can readily feel the heaviness of the situation based on the prose alone. What a triumph!
