What a book. So weird and different from so many other books. It's maybe hard to explain.
It feels like this book is trying to tell a story that other stories in these similar settings wouldn't try to tell. Or like... the focus is on different things, mainly the people. I'm explaining this horribly lol.
Anyway, I would say I liked the novel. When I started reading it I didn't know much and I can't say that the first few pages make you necessarily want to keep reading. It might even feel boring at times, but I am glad I kept on reading. The conversations between the father and the son were beautiful. And some of their encounters very creepy.
Post-Apocalyptic stories often tend to be bleak and depressing. And yet it is exactly in these terrible circumstances that humanity truly tends to shine. And I love that.
As always this is a pretty terrible review, but that’s okay. I was very happy to have been finally able to read this book.

I had a rough time with this at first and mostly because this is not a comfortable book.
to me, this is a book about death and the choice of suicide versus life and living even with awful prospects. With this though, I wonder how much the meaning would change if I revisit this in another state of my life.
I loved the use of dialogue (and the choice to keep things without quotes as it forced me to spend more time with those sections and really digest what was happening between the characters). I also did not find it repetitive (in a negative sense) as I have read in a few reviews. In my opinion, this very much embodied the idea of being purposeful in writing (on McCarthy's part) while telling a story without clear purpose or specific plot points/events - which is something I love.
I would very much recommend and am curious to revisit this sometime in the future to see how my perspectives on it change, if they do at all.

This is certainly not the style of book I have read or been drawn to in the past, but I am glad that I added it to my list. (And I do t ever see myself picking it up again.) A post-apocalyptic tale of a father and son working together to survive in a world of dank, and grey and uncertainty. I spent lots of times reflecting on how their world ended up like it was and how did they manage to continue on while most others did not fair so well. And finally just a good reflection on the relationship between a father and child. A unconditional love that shows throughout the story but also challenges what you might be willing to do to both protect that love and the innocence and compassion of youth.
It was a very slow start for me while reading. Some days only a few pages at a time. Just like the days of the characters were a blue going by, this book had no chapters and just kept going. But just like the characters, I kept going with the energy I had to get to the conclusion of my journey. (And I’m glad I got to tag along.)
