…if i had a dollar for every time i saw the word “ash, okay, or cold” i would be a billionaire. maybe im not advanced enough in literature to think this book was good. only by page 150 did anything remotely good happen (good is a strong word, maybe just something different than saying theyre cold and hungry). had a little hope to give it 2 stars at the end up the last 2 pages sucked. i’m sorry but this is probably the worst book ive ever read and cannot believe it won a pulitzer.

Eh. it is ok but it didn't make me cry. O,O

A harrowing portrayal of a future where life itself is struggling. This is the first work I have read by McCarthy and honestly I feel like this book was overhyped. There is nothing wrong with it, its an engrossing read and you can easily knock it out over a weekend. The author's style for dialog and no chapters takes a bit to get used to but it's not obnoxious. I was just expecting more.
The reader is viewing a sliver of time in the mundane struggles of a father and son barely scraping by. That's it, nothing else much happens, no grand arc just survival. I believe the author signals at the end that despite the horrors of the world that we have seen throughout there are still "good guys" out there after all and the reader can either walk away with that or with anger about the father dying.

the way the dialogue was written kind of confused me sometimes but overall i enjoyed it. i feel like it was really interesting bc usually in apocalypse novels there’s more interactions with other people but the whole story feels very isolated. it is a bit hopeless in some parts which makes it difficult to understand why the man and the boy would want to continue living like this, but i think it showcases human resilience and familial love. lot of religious sentiment too which i’m sure had something to do with it.
